LeMond Carbon obtains independent verification of its carbon fiber rapid oxidation technology

December 17, 2019

LeMond Carbon (“LeMond”) is pleased to announce the results of an independent technical audit conducted by Bureau Veritas (“BV”) of its revolutionary carbon fiber manufacturing process. The audit was conducted on a pilot line at Deakin University’s Carbon Nexus facility in Geelong, Australia. The total oxidation time and material properties verified by BV support LeMond’s claims to lower costs and significantly increase output versus traditional carbon fiber technology.

LeMond signs huge deal for carbon fiber manufacturing

July 3, 2017

LeMond Composites has entered into a global, exclusive 20-year licensing agreement with Deakin University in Australia to commercialize their patent pending manufacturing process to increase production of high performance, low-cost carbon fiber. The licensed process will enable LeMond Composites to commercialize carbon fiber production faster than anyone else currently in the marketplace. This means LeMond will deliver more of its low-cost carbon fiber, faster to industries that benefit from using lighter, stronger materials, like those addressing global energy and transportation challenges.

Greg LeMond, cycling great, in new carbon fibre venture with Geelong's Deakin University

June 21, 2017

American Greg LeMond is an innovator and businessman who just happened to win the world's most famous bike race — three times.

LeMond won the Tour de France in 1986, 1989 and 1990 riding carbon fibre bikes, and pioneered the use of the strong, lightweight material in cycling.  But his latest venture with Victoria's Deakin University will develop new ways to dramatically cut the cost of carbon fibre production for a wide range of uses.

"I've been credited as being the most innovative cyclist in the sport, and I think that's totally an exaggeration, but what I have been is very curious," he said. "I see opportunity where others ask, 'Why would you do that?' and I'm [saying], 'Well, why not?'."

In a $US44 million ($58 million) deal, LeMond Composites will license technology developed at Deakin's Geelong-based carbon fibre research centre, Carbon Nexus.

LeMond Signs Deal with ORNL

August 29, 2016

The company's “breakthrough” process will reportedly reduce production costs by more than 50% relative to the lowest cost industrial grade carbon fiber.

A new composites company founded by Tour de France champion Greg LeMond has signed a licensing agreement with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL, Oak Ridge, Tenn.) The agreement will make the Oak Ridge-based LeMond Composites the first company to offer this new carbon fiber to the transportation, renewable energy, and infrastructure markets.
